Principal Software Development Engineer – Quantum Compiler

Be part of the next revolution in computing! In the Quantum Systems team, we are working on building the software stack and tools to support a scalable quantum computing platform. Join us and help building the foundations for a new computing architecture. We are looking for an exceptional software developer to be part of our team focused on building a compiler and runtime for the Q# language. You will be working on providing a first-class developer experience for Q# as well as translating the high-level language constructs into an executable format for current and future quantum hardware. You will help us design, develop and grow the software that enables execution on Azure Quantum and empowers people around the word to leverage quantum computing. As part of the compiler and runtime team for Microsoft’s quantum programming language Q# you will be working on building a sustainable and versatile software framework to support an evolving technology. You will excel in this role if you are capable of quickly acquiring expertise in unfamiliar technical areas and are eager to learn and refine a new set of skills. Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of experience developing commercial software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, physics, or a related technical field
  • Experience with compiler development, LLVM, and/or building debugging tools is beneficial
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and ability to succeed in an innovative area
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Detail oriented design, coding, debugging, and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for quality with customer empathy
  • Experience with functional programming, code transformation and optimization, code generation, and type systems

Prior experience with quantum computing or quantum physics isn’t required. As part of our team you will have ample opportunity to acquire and expand your knowledge in these areas.
