Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, which in turn power Microsoft’s cloud business. We anticipate and provide capacity for continuous scale, enabling ~30% of Microsoft revenue through Commercial Cloud ($38 billion in FY20 Q1). The CO+I Engineering team (CO+IE) delivers services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation. We own a large portfolio of services, including workflows that enable predicable, lowest cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications that help our operation run as efficiently as possible. CO+I Engineering is a competitive advantage for Microsoft, and an important pillar in its cloud success.
The Critical Environment (CE) Engineering team in CO+IE focuses on Microsoft datacenters’ power and cooling infrastructure. We build highly available software systems to extract telemetry data, manage resource allocation, enable preventative monitoring, and optimize energy usage and data center efficiency. Our mission is to innovate and transform datacenter operation, monitoring, and controls. We work in a fast-faced and dynamic environment where quality is an imperative for both data and systems. We strive to provide the best systems and capabilities possible for our data center operations teams and planning teams.
We are looking for passionate and innovative software engineers with experience in cloud services and big data to join us on our journey to transform the way datacenters operate world-wide. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with datacenter industry leaders and world class engineers. You will also have the opportunity to explore and innovate using cutting edge technologies including Azure IoT, Edge Computing, and machine learning.
- Develop front-end applications and back-end services to support critical business functions delivering cloud capacity to customers
- Deliver platforms and tools that accelerate application building and provide consistent user interactions across a variety of applications
- Engage with engineers and business partners to identify opportunities to accelerate business decision making
- Act as an expert in getting applications and services to production quickly while ensuring code quality and security
- 6+ years of industry experience developing software platforms, preferably in server or cloud-based systems
- Proven record of building high-availability software systems
- Strong communication skills with both engineering and non-engineering colleagues
