Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, which in turn power Microsoft’s cloud business. We anticipate and provide capacity for continuous scale, enabling ~30% of Microsoft revenue through Commercial Cloud ($38 billion in FY20 Q1). The CO+I Engineering team (CO+IE) delivers services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation. We own a large portfolio of services, including workflows that enable predicable, lowest cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications that help our operation run as efficiently as possible. Key responsibilities

As a Senior Software Engineer on our team you will be responsible for helping design and implement a mission critical distributed datacenter work order management and optimization system. This system is at the core of managing most human activities that happen at the datacenters, and it is core to Microsoft’s goal to keep expanding our cloud infrastructure in the most efficient possible way. You will be empowered for envisioning, designing, coding, validating, and shipping core components of the system - all on a very quick cadence and in a fast-paced environment. You will have the opportunity to learn how a datacenter is operated inside out, and work with a wide variety of people from across the company, giving you broad exposure to impact our business in a positive manner. Our projects provide plenty of opportunities to make a huge business impact and growth. CO+I is a young organization within Microsoft, and as such, you will be responsible for envisioning, designing, coding, validating, and deploying NEW features from the ground up! Basic Qualifitcations:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, or relevant Engingeering discipline
  • 4+ years industry experience in hands-on software design and coding experience in: C#, Java, .Net, C++, or other OO language

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing software platforms, preferably in server or cloud-based systems
  • Experience working through the full product cycle from initial design to rapid production deployment
  • Sound computer science fundamentals with strong testing, debugging, and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of various design patterns and technologies that enable business problem-solving at scale
  • Experience developing high-performance service-oriented solutions
  • Solid analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Ability to incorporate and understand the needs of our diverse customer base, including customers using assistive technology
  • Strong communication skills with both engineering and non-engineering colleagues
