Cloud Data Distribution Service (CDDS) is looking for a motivated individual that can learn and grow within a service engineering team. CDDS is part of the larger Azure Storage group and is responsible for providing data distribution to various engineering groups like Exchange, Skype, and 120+ other properties across the Microsoft Enterprise. CDDS is a hypervisor-based data distribution service that globally replicates pre-defined datasets intercontinentally from a primary region to specified secondary regions, establishing localized data sets for low-latency retrieval of data requested within the targeted geographical regions.

We are looking for a Service Engineer who will help engineer, build, run and improve our service. The ideal candidate will have strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, a passion for customer service and be able to quickly trouble shoot and resolve issues. The candidate must be self-motivated, able to prioritize work quickly and appropriately in an ambiguous environment.


  • As a Service Engineer, you would be responsible for keeping production environment and infrastructure up
  • Daily management of virtualization hosts, networking, and storage resources throughout multiple datacenters
  • Ability to Implement and Manage Hyper-V virtualization systems in global hyperscale environments
  • Troubleshooting complex Hyper-V and virtual network production issues
  • Implement and trouble shoot Group Policy
  • Engineering, testing, Operating, and configuring enterprise environments
  • Respond and resolve emergent issues, act as a crisis manager, and subsequently follow through to prevent problem recurrence using a Problem Management approach.
  • Creates and identifies standards and best practices and drives adoption across the service team.
  • Drive efficiencies through process improvement and root cause analysis resulting in service maturity and scalability
  • Be available for an on-call rotation with the ability to troubleshoot and communicate outside of normal business hours
  • A strong pragmatic approach to problem solving being prepared to discover problems you’ve never encountered or a problem that has never been seen before
  • Implement and operate Windows Services with strong focus on automation and problem engineering
  • Strong PowerShell expertise
  • Automate Hypervisor configuration for rapid datacenter deployments
  • Automate virtual machine deployment throughout all global datacenters (SCVMM)
  • Automate virtual storage; to include maintenance and expansion in excess of 1+PB environments
  • Monitor environment with system center operations manager and internal Microsoft tools.
  • Configure Active Directory for Group Policy deployments and all server baselines
  • Troubleshooting complex Hyper-V and virtual network production issues
  • Perform in-depth troubleshooting and root cause analysis while working with developers to identify problems


Minimum qualifications:

  • 3+years of PowerShell and Virtualization experience
  • Expert understanding of Windows Server Core
  • ​5+ years in complex projects, architecting large-scale solutions, and or a development lead with design responsibilities
  • Proven experience dealing with hyperscale data systems and architectures
  • Expert understanding of Hyper-V, including multi node Hyper-V clusters
  • Strong technical skills in Hyper-V, Windows Failover Clustering, Active Directory, Group Policy, File Services, and Distributed File System
  • Strong leadership and communication skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • Comfortability in a non-GUI environment (preferred)
  • Software-defined Networking (preferred)
  • Software-defined Storage (preferred)
  • Experience with content delivery/replication technologies (preferred)

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
