Do you see yourself as a technical innovator, a collaborator, and a customer-focused engineer? Would you be excited to help define and deliver broad infrastructural solutions to the complex business requirements specific to some of Microsoft's largest and most security-conscious customers? Do you care deeply about being on a team that values relationships, inclusivity, and diversity? We are looking for a Principal Architect for the Microsoft 365 Core Substrate team who embraces these roles and is excited by this challenge.

The M365 Core Substrate team creates, maintains, and sustains the heart of Microsoft’s customer data platform which powers our internal partners’ cloud applications for millions of Microsoft consumer, education, and enterprise customers using Office applications, Teams, Windows, Bing, and Surface devices.

We are collaborating with partners across the Experiences and Devices division to meet special requirements requested by customers that have the highest expectations for security, reliability, availability, and performance. There are unique architectural challenges imposed by these requests. We are working to drive the right frameworks and processes to enable the M365 Core Substrate team to deliver on these expectations in a reliable, scalable, and repeatable way.

We are looking for an Architect who can help define the technical vision and build relationships across the division to ensure we deliver on these customer requirements.

Customer Focused Engineer – You strive to understand customer requirements and the intent behind those requirements. You look to understand the implications of these requirements on both our architecture and on the engineers running our services.

Collaborator – We're working with teams across the division on this project. You strive to understand the motivations and goals of the teams we’re working with and work towards better-together collaborative solutions.

Technical Innovator– You dive deep into our current architecture, understanding systems ranging from hardware and capacity, to deployment and data center buildout, from service management to incident detection and mitigation. You develop and evangelize architectural plans that balance customer requirements, cost to implement, cost to run, and business implications. You thrive on creating designs from ambiguous requirements and realize that innovative designs can create opportunity from this ambiguity.
