TE Connectivity's Molding Teams operate assigned automated molding machinery, ensure component flow, troubleshoot and correct machinery issues to ensure quality and productivity. They perform changeovers and setups according to production schedule, perform quality checks according to established processes and document the results as required by our quality procedures. Every team member is responsible for maintaining housekeeping and organization of the work area as well as following TE Connectivity's EH&S policies and procedures.
The work of a MTA Extrusion Molding Operator working within Production with TE Connectivity at the Lickdale, PA plant is performed in a manufacturing facility involved primarily in the manufacturing of electronic connectors.
MTA Extrusion Molding is the process of producing a continuous piece of product by forcing molten plastic through a shaped die. Material is fed to the MTA extrusion molding machines through a hopper, melted in the extruder, and travels through a screw mechanism and through a die head to form its shape. The continuous piece is cooled by water. Tubing is pulled and coiled onto plastic or wooden reels. Samples for inspection are collected from all reels, per the QIP.
Tools and equipment used by this MTA Extrusion Molding Operator include, but are not limited to the following: hand tools, empty reels, calibration instruments, MTA extrusion molds and parts, mule, and hand jack.
The heaviest weight lifted by a MTA Extrusion Molding Operator is a 55.1 pound bag of raw material which is generally lifted at 5 – 36 inches above the ground when performing the job. The frequency of lifting over the course of a normal workday would be classified as occasional. It is also important to understand weights lifted at greater frequencies are lighter in nature.
The physical demands of pushing and pulling take into consideration the forces required to overcome inertia. The highest push force required for overcoming inertia was measured at 41.4 pounds and was associated with pushing a rolling container of raw material. The highest pull force required to overcome inertia was measured at 55.6 pounds and was required to pull a rolling container of raw material.
The work of a MTA Extrusion Operator is performed indoors in a manufacturing environment. The worker is required to wear PPE consistent with the nature of the work. All workers are required to wear steel toed safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection while in the production areas. Gloves should be worn when handling MTA extrusion material that may be hot or warm. Additional PPE may be worn based on assigned task and exposure risk.
