The Office Performance team is looking for engineers to optimize the services that power the world’s productivity. Engineers in this role will have the opportunity to drive efficiency improvements across a number of vectors, including the design of CPU and memory efficient software, identifying and fixing existing inefficiencies at scale, diagnostic and tooling improvements, and collaboration with a diverse set of partners across the globe. You will often have the flexibility to pursue avenues that align best to their passions and skills.

Applicants should possess strong analytical skills, be capable of quickly learning new technology, and able communicate well across team boundaries. As the Performance team serves all of Office core engineering, you will gain exposure to a wide set of Azure services where efficiency projects will have significant impact, and should be able to quickly adapt to new environments.

  • Using performance tools to identify and fix CPU and memory inefficiency at scale
  • Designing CPU and memory efficient software
  • Building tools to increase the scale and level of insights that our performance tools provide
  • Collaborating with partners across Microsoft to learn and share best practices


A BS or higher degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience building and shipping production quality software
Experience and passion for measuring and optimizing software performance

Highly qualified candidates will have:
Proficiency with C++, C#/.NET, and cloud service development
Great collaboration and partner outreach skills
Experience using data science to derive insights at scale
