The Microsoft Identity group serves over a billion active users, powering Identity experiences at the core of almost every Microsoft product and service. Identity is a booming business, quickly reaching multiple billions in revenue as part of the Enterprise Mobility Suite of services. As we expand on this investment, we are seeking a manager of managers to grow and manage an engineering team to help us better deliver on key initiatives within the Identity, and in partnership with engineering teams across Microsoft. This is an exciting leadership opportunity, one that doesn't come along very often.
This is a Principal Group Engineering Manager job with opportunity for deep technical impact, product innovation and lots of executive visibility with opportunity for advancement. You’d be joining a team in a very fast growing space with a lot of room for growth in both platform and customer aspects. Accountabilities include defining and executing on the Identity Data and Business Intelligence vision, delivering on a unified run time data pipeline and governed consumption models and innovating in the business insights space. Recall the challenges most us face while running our services in a secure way, our customers have the same challenges and need insights and data on what is happening withing our systems, you will be empowered to solve it for the customers, making it streamlined and non-intrusive.
We envision this team as a center of excellence, incubating and evolving new Identity capabilities, and playing a key role in expanding the feature set of our current Azure Active Directory suite of services. You will evolve the current team and partner closely with the rest of Identity.

You are an experienced team manager and effective leader who can influence effectively cross-group and cross-company. It's important that you love that kind of work and are proficient at creating and maintaining warm and productive working relationships with other teams. And there'll be a new set of challenges arriving every day, so you’ll need to be able to help your team work closely with partners, reason about priorities, influence key decision and create collaborative agreements about sequencing of work while maintaining good relationships across teams. There is a lot of deep distributed systems and security technology in this job, so a background in services, identity and security is a plus though it's not a prerequisite. What’s really important is that you can show empathy for customers, be sensitive to their needs and are proficient at guiding teamwork to deliver great solutions. We are looking for a leader with the experience in running agile teams, passion for mentorship, growing talent and team-building, and focus on the fundamentals.
- 15+ years of professional software development experience in either C, C++, Java or C#
- 10+ years of experience leading software engineering teams
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
