Meaningful Work from Day One...

The Assistant Controller for the Jack Daniel Production Operations Team will have responsibility for the financial leadership, control, analysis and reporting of Jack Daniel Production Operations. Represents over $100MM in operating and raw material volume with capital budget of $8MM - $15MM. Operations include spirits processing, raw materials receiving, bottling operations, logistics operations and barrel distribution. Responsible for the timely reporting, interpretation and clear communication of financial performance for the Jack Daniel Production Operations, including assisting the JD Controller in development of annual budgets, capital plan development, cost reduction plans, balance sheet analysis, investment base data, monthly projections, SOX compliance, inventory analysis/reporting, analysis of production cost, and Raw Material/Finished Goods inventory control.

The Assistant Controller for the Jack Daniel Distillery and Warehousing Operations will have responsibility for the financial leadership, control, analysis and reporting of Jack Daniel Distillery, Lem Motlow Prop., Inc. Operations and Jack Daniel Barrel warehousing operations. Represents an annual operating budget of $80MM -$90MM, capital budget of $10MM - $20MM, distillery production, 9MM bushels of grain purchases and by-products disposal and barrel warehousing. Responsible for the timely reporting, interpretation and clear communication of financial performance for the Jack Daniel Distillery, Lem Motlow Prop., Inc. operations, including assisting the JD Controller in development of annual budgets, capital plan development, cost reduction plans, balance sheet analysis, investment base data, monthly projections, LIFO inventory analysis/reporting, intercompany sales/accounting, and analysis of production cost and barrel inventory control.

What You Can Expect

Financial Leadership and Analysis (25%)

  • Provide business counsel and financial leadership to plant management at Jack Daniel Production Operations Provide insightful, accurate analyses in support of strategic decisions.
  • Oversees the preparation of the annual operating budget for the Production Operations. Applies a high degree of independent thinking and decision making. Challenges operations and management to set ambitious yet achievable goals.
  • Work with local teams and engineering to develop capital budget. Provides support and assists in development of Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR) including cost-benefit analysis in support on investments. Ensure effective use of financial resources an adherence to related policies and procedures. Lead monitoring and reporting of monthly capital expenditure, timely closure of capital projects and proper classification of resulting fixed assets.

Controlling and Accounting (60%)

  • Responsible for the monthly closing function and related financial analysis and reporting of results for Production and G & A departments including production cost, variance from budget, projection data, production variance and standards analysis, and cost analytics. Provide and interpret analysis for plant management and Global Production Finance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of the general ledger and make independent decisions regarding adjustments. Responsible for balance sheet account reconciliations and analysis for the Jack Daniel Production Operations. Responsible for periodic general ledger closing cycle and subsequent preparation of financial information and related analyses to accurately reflect business activity based on generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP).
  • Maintains and improves system of internal controls through regular independent reviews and process modifications as needed, through internal and external audit.
  • Reviews and evaluates raw material and finished goods inventory aging. Coordinates and performs test counts during annual raw material and finished goods inventory counts. Proposes and reviews appropriate inventory reserves as necessary. Evaluate effectiveness of processes, identifies and communicate issues and partners with operations management to drive improvement.
  • Oversees development of raw material, work-in-process, and finished goods cost standards and assists in review and validation of annual standards.
  • Closes SAP material ledger module and analyzes actual to standard variances and provides analysis
  • Responsible for accounting functions related to liquid inventories for Jack Daniel bottling and processing, daily production and shipment records and bi-monthly federal excise returns (annual expense $125MM+)
  • Direct Supervision of 2 JD Finance salaried employees

Other Duties (15%)

  • As needed, support Jack Daniel leadership, Global Production Finance and Global Production Leadership

We Are Looking For People Who

  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance and 6-7 years accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying GAAP principles
  • 3+ years accounting experience working in a manufacturing or related environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and complete workload, ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with people of all levels, and complete work with established deadlines maintaining close attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to build productive relationships and partnerships and influence others.
  • Ability to lead change and drive for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent business planning and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office and Google software.
  • Proficiency with SAP-ERP OR equivalent ERP software including the following modules: financial accounting, investment management, controlling, and treasury

What You Can Add to the Team

  • CPA, MBA and /or CMA Certificate.
  • Experience in alcohol beverage manufacturing environment
  • SAP-ERP experience
