We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is charged-up by leading highly technical designs through challenging product development cycles. A strong mix of technical breadth and vision allow you to work cross-functionally to tie mechanical assemblies, optics, electronics and software into compelling experiences. You are highly motivated and enjoy bringing technical and tactical leadership to cross-disciplinary teams.

Your work experience includes a minimum of eight years of mechanical product design, with at least five years in medium to high volume consumer electronics. This includes designing mechanical parts and assemblies for manufacture. You have demonstrated the ability to deliver a solution to the customer’s need through your design and a track record of innovation and experience in selecting materials and components to achieve cost targets. The establishment of specifications and written test plans, including the development of test procedures to verify your designs are integral to the position.

An ability to manage projects and design rigor against development timeline is required, and your excellent communication skills allow you to work seamlessly with teams across various engineering functions and geographies. As such, you are willing to travel internationally at times to support design and manufacturing activities. You must be able to work well with international contract manufacturers as well as external design resources.

  • Coordinating internal and external design activities while providing technical leadership
  • Development of system requirements by working with team members to evaluate different solution options for functionality, cost and risk
  • Developing holistic system-level solutions for complex integrated devices
  • Specifying, designing (Architecture, Part/Assemblies, BOM, cost analysis), implementing and verifying Mechanical systems
  • Developing Mechanical solutions for new product development and sustaining production.
  • Working across disciplines to design, test and debug complex hardware technologies for product development, to meet aggressive cost and schedule goals.
  • Learn, analyze, break down complex issues, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to plan work and work to a plan, adapting as necessary in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Create and maintain specifications to be used internally and externally
  • Identify internal schedule and milestones - recommending solutions that fit each project
  • Technical lead from the ME team to ensure designs meet the agreed upon milestones with the proper collateral at a high level of quality.
  • Manage DFM, DFA, Quality and Reliability requirements
  • Serve as technical team leader – fostering culture, demonstrating best practices, empowering others, and mentoring more junior staff

Qualifications

  • Eight years of product development experience, with at least five years designing for medium or high-volume consumer electronic devices.
  • Knowledge of mechanical tolerance analysis and Designed Experiment Techniques.
  • Experience in the design of complex assemblies of injection molded parts on at least one electronics product or subsystem that successfully reached volume production.
  • A solid understanding of core engineering principles, Structural/Thermal design and analysis is required.
  • Know-how with a common engineering CAD package (CREO a plus).
  • Understanding of and experience with PCBA mechanical interface definition and power supplies preferred.
  • Design for automated manufacturing and test experience is desired
  • Strong communication skills and must be able to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms.
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and self-driven.
  • B.S. Mechanical engineering or equivalent degree and experience, M.S. or PhD in related engineering discipline preferred
  • Domestic and international travel will be required.
