The Azure Device Platform team, within the Azure Edge + Platform group, is on a mission to define, develop, and light up innovative hardware solutions that powers Azure. We are looking for an awesome Software Engineer to join our team and work on new Azure hardware solutions. You will be working in a collaborative environment, focused on delivering an integrated solution to the Azure fleet touching hardware, networking, storage, OS/compute and security. The work will span across firmware, drivers, user-space services/tools, telemetry and Azure datacenter backends. You will get to work on both Windows and Linux operating systems. The role requires great debugging and problem solving skills. You don’t have to be an area expert initially, but you will be expected to learn and grasp things quickly. We *do* want you to be someone with strong coding, design and debugging skills, and someone who is great at collaborating with teams within Microsoft as well as from other companies.

Responsibilities

As an engineer on the Azure Device Platform team, you will work on system services that monitor hardware/platform health, detect/diagnose hardware defects and report health telemetry data to Azure backend. You will also work on Azure server components that manage the diagnostics and repair workflows. You will be involved in the integration efforts to bring new Azure hardware solutions to the data center. You will have ample opportunities to participate in all stages of our engineering lifecycle - from initial research and discovery, prototyping, design, development, unit-test and all the way through successful service deployment and Livesite support. This position is collaborative – requires working with many partner teams, learning and understanding how to use their technologies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience with C/C++/C# development
  • 1+ years of experience in software or firmware development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good design, coding and debugging skills with low level system components including device drivers
  • Good understanding of fundamental OS concepts with Windows or Linux
  • Some experience with cloud computing
  • Willingness to learn, and a proactive and positive attitude
  • Strong communications/customer interfacing skill and the ability to deal with ambiguity and prioritize issues

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Screen: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
