Responsibilities

The Surface devices team is seeking qualified candidates for a lead display engineering position to develop next generation of displays. You will play an active role in display and system architecture definition and design, driving development through mass production including troubleshooting system problems, root-cause failure analysis of display issues, and proactively engaging with multiple tiers of suppliers, as well as Microsoft Sourcing, Test, and Manufacturing teams.

You will provide critical subject matter expertise on OLEDs, LCDs, and other display component technology. You will analyze test data and drive the right solutions, including required trade-offs and design changes, all in the context of business priorities.

You will work with the Surface team to develop technology roadmaps, perform component cost analyses, and drive competitive benchmarking activities. The position involves working closely with system, electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and design verification engineers, and program managers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in display engineering, electrical engineering, physics, materials science, optic or other engineering degree
  • Proven display subject matter expertise in OLED/LCD panel design, front of screen quality definition, OLED materials and processing, and Opto-electrical testing.
  • Experience and technical knowledge in front-end LCD/OLED development including TFT layout and circuit simulation or in OLED module development.
  • 5+ years of experience in the display industry with extensive experience in display design, characterization, manufacturing process and test; and a track-record of delivering products
  • International travel required (up to 25%)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree MS, PhD, in technical discipline
  • Proven analytical skills, hands on problem solving, testing, and trouble-shooting hardware
  • High degree of flexibility—willing to fill in the gaps and being self-sufficient when necessary
  • Self-driven, results-oriented, and passionate about technology and product-making.
  • Proven communication skills to manage cross-disciplinary discussions across diverse cultures with clarity and positivity.
  • Experience in OLED based devices manufacturing and display module integration
  • Knowledge of display metrology, photometry, and color science.
  • Extensive experience designing and testing display hardware in the consumer electronics field
  • Proven capability to define successful product specifications, measurements procedures, and reports which drive product decisions
  • Track record of ownership of design deliverables for assigned platforms and/or sub-systems
  • Programming for test-automation and data analysis, C#, C++, Matlab, Python, others.
  • Experience in prototype bring-up, debug, fault detection, root cause and failure analysis.
  • Knowledge of display metrology, photometry, and color science.
