Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, which in turn power Microsoft’s cloud business. We anticipate and provide capacity for continuous scale, enabling ~30% of Microsoft revenue through Commercial Cloud ($38 billion in FY20 Q1). The CO+I Engineering team (CO+IE) delivers services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation. We own a large portfolio of services, including workflows that enable predicable, lowest cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications that help our operation run as efficiently as possible. CO+I Engineering is a competitive advantage for Microsoft, and an important pillar in its cloud success.

The Critical Infrastructure Health (CIH) team in CO+I Engineering focuses on Microsoft datacenters’ power and cooling infrastructure. We are building the telemetry platform for the datacenter Critical Environment (CE) that enables smart alarming and incident detection, preventative monitoring, energy and capacity efficiency optimizations etc. Our mission is to innovate and transform datacenter operation, monitoring and controls. As part of this mission, we are looking for an experienced software service developer with strong innovative mindset to help us explore CE incident detection opportunities using telemetry, correlation and AI. In this role, you will work closely with datacenter experts to deeply understand failure scenarios, identify telemetry gaps, and build innovative detection mechanisms. You will also work with data scientist team to integrate AI rule and models into CIH systems.

Responsibilities

  • Deeply understand the Critical Environment domain and the telemetry data.

  • Explore, innovate and build incident detection solutions.

  • Work collaboratively with partners to drive clarity in scenarios and priorities.

  • Work closely with AI team to develop and integrate AI rules and models.

  • Work independently to drive dependency and clear road blockers.

  • Explore new technologies, build quick POCs and fail fast.

  • Devops activities.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of industrial experience in shipping products
  • 3+ years of proven experience in building cloud service
  • Proficient in C#/java or equivalent
  • Experience in data analysis and/or telemetry processing
  • Proficient in at least one query language
  • Self-drive individual with passion to deliver high quality product
  • BS degree or equivalent
