Are you passionate about owning the overall design and architecture of our next generation data platform? We are building the Intelligent Conversation and Communications Cloud (IC3). We power Microsoft’s first-party real-time conversation products, notably Skype and Teams with many millions of users, by providing reliable and high-quality audio and video calling, meetings, and chat services that work every time, from anywhere, on any device. The Data Platform team is looking for an experienced Architect to build the next generation high-scale data platform.



  • Maintain an up-to-date and broad understanding of data technologies and tech stacks in large-scale deployments
  • Create design, architecture, strategy, and roadmap documents on a regular basis

  • Have 10+ years of software design, development, and architecture experience
  • Have demonstrable experience in architecting and driving implementation of large-scale services or experiences spanning, multiple systems and groups
  • Ability to translate complex technical problems into content appropriate for different audiences
  • Ability to balance short and long-term goals and articulate the rationale
  • Ability to stand up databases in the cloud, ingest data, and run queries
  • Understanding of Azure database, orchestration, and reporting products, their uses, and tradeoffs
  • Experience with ingesting and processing different types of service and usage data and telemetry
  • Understanding of data classification models in privacy and security contexts, for example GDPR

Understanding of modern services security models and their implementation
