Azure Cosmos DB is a fully managed NoSQL database service for modern application development. It guarantees single-digit millisecond response times and 99.999-percent availability backed by SLAs. It offers automatic and instant scalability, and open-source APIs for MongoDB and Cassandra. It is one of the largest NoSQL database services on the planet, serving some of the most important workloads across many different industries.

The Cosmos DB Performance team is looking for a seasoned engineer who can help bring its amazing performance to the next level. If you have deep insights into the orchestration between hardware and software, if you are inherently curious about how a modern distributed system works, if you are not satisfied with the status quo and if you are not afraid to go deep in various parts of the code base and make changes then this role is for you!

This is a great opportunity to make a difference in a fast-growing business and high-functioning team.

Responsibilities

The work scope includes leading the engineering investments in one or more of the following areas:

  • Investigate and root-cause perf issues across hardware and software boundaries: from CPU, microcode, OS, networking to product code.
  • Design and implement performance infrastructure that focuses on methodically calibrating data at scale to ensure meaningful characterizations and comparisons.
  • Leverage performance and profiling tools to identify hot spots and bottlenecks across the entire service stack and improve service performance at the macro level.
  • Design and implement perf automation infrastructure to fully automate environment creation, deployment orchestration, workload orchestration and metrics analysis.
  • Use data-driven approach, leverage learning models and other cutting-edge technology to build quality insights, automate regression analysis and drive excellence.
