The Research in Software Engineering Group in Microsoft Research seeks candidates in the areas of programming languages,compilers/runtime,automated reasoning, high-performance computing,verification,and software engineering. We are seeking exceptionalResearch Software Development Engineercandidates who are interested innovel approachesto improving software quality,performance,and reliabilityatindustrialscale.This is an exceptional opportunity to drive researchwith a focus on advanced software developmentin the context of a diverse team of researchers to push the state-of-the-art in software production.

Responsibilities

Develop and drive high-impactresearch agenda in programming languages, compiler/runtime, automated reasoning, high-performance computing,verification, andsoftware engineeringwith a focus on software development.

Collaborate to develop and test out new ideas within existing or new collaborations within the group and with others.

Build software systems thattest new approaches or develop novel theoretical and practical insights.

Prepare technical papers and presentations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

PhD in programming language design, compiler/runtime, automated reasoning, verification, high-performance computing, or a related area

OR

MS degree plus 5 years of engineering experience in programming language design, compiler/runtime, automated reasoning, verification, high-performance computing, or a related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

Active participation in research as demonstrated by journal or conference publications. 

Strong understanding of state-of-the-art in software systems and software engineering.

Demonstrable ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
