We are the Azure Maps and Geospatial Services team and we're focused on innovating and inventing the future of maps and geo location. Azure Maps provides location-based services for Microsoft enterprise customer applications, geospatial insights and location capabilities for mobility and automotive applications. Responsibilities

The Azure Maps team is looking for a Principal Data Scientist Manager to bring together the next generation of location-based services natively within Azure. These services are integrated into Azure’s enterprise ecosystem to enable rich location application development. In this role, you will provide deep team leadership, raise the technical bar, maintain a data and results driven culture, and nurture a team culture of high collaboration and trust. As a technical leader responsible for contributing to the delivery of premium maps quality and experiences internationally, very often one must expect to use advanced geospatial and machine learning algorithms in keys areas such as maps data conflations and publishing, search and geocoding, user location, traffic and routing, rendering and controls. To help foster your success, you will need to build, develop, and lead a team of Software Engineers and Data Scientists to successfully execute on our roadmap, and achieve your strategic objectives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of people management or tech lead experience
  • 7+ years of practical experience applying machine learning and statistical analysis to commercial (i.e. non-academic coursework) applications
  • Experience developing in C, C#, C++, Java or Python
  • Ability to independently drive collaborations across teams
  • Passionate, self-motivated
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS/PhD degree in CS/EE or related areas is preferred
  • Familiarity with distributed data processing/analysis and modeling paradigm, such as Map-Reduce and MPI is a plus
