The Windows devices market is showing incredible growth with the new ‘learn/work/connect from home’ trends… and performance, battery life and reliability (sometime lumped under the ‘Fundamentals’ umbrella term) are increasingly becoming top drivers of purchase decisions. If you are passionate about building smooth, lean and fast software, this is your opportunity to join a team of exceptional engineers as we design the next generation of Windows devices and push new boundaries and innovations in the Fundamentals area. You will work with device manufacturers, Silicon partners, and a broad range of OS and application feature teams to deliver best-in-class battery life and performance for Windows devices, while maintaining high reliability and security.

Our team’s mission is to enable reliable and performant experiences in Windows on a broad range of 1st and 3rd party devices, including the premium and low cost segments. Delighting customers with excellent Fundamentals is our primary focus and passion. Our team analyzes system wide performance (e.g., power, responsiveness, and footprint) and stability issues and fixes problems across team boundaries. We use our telemetry and analytics systems to understand both broad and high impact issues and build tools and services that engineers across Windows use every day to pinpoint and fix hard-to-diagnose bugs. We'd like you along for the ride!

As a member of the team, you will collect, aggregate, and analyze performance, battery life and reliability data across a broad range of Microsoft platforms. You will work with many teams across the company to build mechanisms and drive improvements that delight our customers with fast and reliable end-to-end experiences. The skills that you will build are of a correspondingly broad range, including strong development skills, advanced debugging, performance analysis (user and kernel-mode), data pipelines, machine learning and statistical data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Software programming experience in C++, C# or Java
  • Working knowledge of systems programming
  • Experience with telemetry and data mining and related big data systems
  • Ability to collaborate with partners and drive projects end to end
