This set-up assures proper coordination and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures.

Tax and Trade are responsible for Worldwide Tax Reporting, Trade, Compliance, and Planning, including the technology and process functions to support the coordination of the worldwide tax and trade functions. There are seven major functions within the Tax Department - Corporate Tax Compliance; Indirect Tax; International Tax and Transfer Pricing; Tax Affairs; Tax Planning and Controversies; Tax & Trade Process and Technology; and Tax Provision.

Job Summary:

The Senior Tax Manager will provide global transaction tax support across Microsoft by analyzing, advising and driving compliance with new legislation and across strategic business initiatives. The role will be responsible for all aspects of monitoring, advisory and compliant implementation of new global transaction tax legislation, regulations, administrative rulings, etc. The role will communicate internally in Tax and partner with business groups to understand impact and coordinate any changes to positions, policies, processes and systems. The role will collaborate with stakeholders across business groups, Finance and Legal to provide technical tax guidance to enable strategic business initiatives. The role will help identify, define and drive key opportunities and efficiencies while ensuring compliance with new legislation and across launch execution.


Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Advise on global transaction tax technical considerations, implications and risk.
  • Track and document global transaction tax regulatory changes, perform impact analysis and manage and coordinate implementation across business groups and systems.
  • Work cross-functionally and across regions to provide clear, consistent and comprehensive tax guidance to support compliance with new legislation and enable business initiatives.
  • Perform legal research and analysis on a variety of tax issues, including new transaction taxes, new markets and project-specific initiatives.
  • Develop strong understanding of Microsoft businesses and internal financial systems and tools.
  • Develop plans and strategies to mitigate tax risk and optimize opportunities.
  • Engage in continuous learning of Microsoft services, products, infrastructure, operations and go-to-market.



The recommended qualifications for the ideal candidate include:

  • Bachelors Degree Required. JD, CPA or Masters in Taxation preferred;
  • Experience in both industry and law firm/Big 4 accounting firm highly desired;
  • 5+ years of in-depth tax technical knowledge and experience in global indirect (VAT, GST) and other transaction-based taxes and compliance regimes (DST, remote seller, e-Invoicing);
  • Working knowledge or experience in APAC, LATAM, telecommunications taxes and/or tax/billing systems is a plus;
  • Strong partnering capabilities with proven ability to develop meaningful relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and to influence and collaborate across groups;
  • Ability to think strategically and engage in day to day details while planning through multi-year execution;
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and autonomous with ability to quickly understand and integrate business objectives with tax compliance and strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills; ability to communicate complex analysis in a clear, simple way;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience exercising mature judgment and best practices;
  • Proven success managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously across a fast-paced and continually changing environment.
