We are looking for a senior software engineer to help us deliver tools & services to significantly improve developers’ productivity, in particular improving the Extensibility platform in Visual Studio. Our work includes providing platform features to the Visual Studio IDE to enable rich, reliable, and performant experiences for both built-in Visual Studio features as well as 3rd party extensions. We also strive to constantly evolve our ecosystem to better support extension developers as well as Visual Studio customers.

In this role, you will interact with various teams across Visual Studio family, spanning both program managers and engineers. You will interact with Visual Studio partners to better understand how they plug into our ecosystem and how you can help resolve their issues. Your work will not only delight customers who use Visual Studio as their development environment, but also Visual Studio partners who expand the impact of the IDE to provide custom scenarios.

You will work in a collaborative and inclusive environment. Our team delivers features which ship to customers frequently and we learn from their feedback. You will build simple and powerful experiences in developer tools and instrument them to monitor the health of the tools and services. The software you build will help millions of developers all over the world.

Basic Qualifications:

5+ years of experience developing commercial software

Candidate characteristics:

  • Loves working with a smart, technical customer base
  • Enjoys figuring out difficult technical problems in a foundational space that will affect Visual Studio's ability to deliver on features that target new platforms or provide new experience
  • Likes the idea that the code you build & design has one of the most direct correlations to developer satisfaction, and by delivering high quality, performant, and elegant experiences you can greatly enhance a developer's day-to-day enjoyment
  • Wants to be part of and build a motivated and collaborative engineering team
  • Eager to design, implement, debug, and deliver rich developer experiences and services using C# and/or C++
  • Delights in leading a project and helping others grow technically

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Software design, coding and debugging experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field or professional software development experience
  • Experience with large scale application development using C# or C++

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
