This position will provide technical assistance to Mark Russinovich, Microsoft Azure CTO. Azure is at the center of enabling cloud computing for mega scale Microsoft services as well as our public cloud business. The Azure development team is responsible for the design, implementation, and delivery of Azure technology including Compute, Networking, Storage, HPC, Engineering Systems, and Service Fabric.


Responsibilities include facilitating cross group collaboration on technical issues both within Azure and with other teams across the company, providing deep technical and architectural research (including prototyping), driving the development of a divisional technology roadmap, and helping to author white papers and presentations.

The ideal candidate will thrive in intense, multitasking, interrupt-driven worlds and enjoy building systems software. They must be able to maintain confidentiality and work well with senior management. Strong analytical and interpersonal skills are required, as this candidate must be able to build bridges between groups and to identify the root causes of miscommunication.


Candidates must have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant software design and development experience preferably specializing in distributed computing
  • Proven design and coding skills
  • Outstanding technical problem solving and debugging ability
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Additional preferred experience includes:

  • Experience with hardware design and/or optimization of core operating systems software.
  • Experience with non-Microsoft platforms and technologies.
  • Familiarity with open source software systems and methodologies

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check. This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
