Come join the Microsoft Debugger Platform team and help us on our mission to ensure that every device, product, and service that Microsoft ships can be debugged and crashes diagnosed! We build industry leading tools and components that support post mortem, time-travel, and live debugging. We ship our own products directly to our end customers, such as our debugger (WinDbg) and kernel debugger (KD), and we power other Microsoft products and services such as Visual Studio, crash debugging for Azure services and other Microsoft products (Waston/Azure Watson), and automatic crash analysis (“!analyze”). We are growing our capabilities to address the needs of a rapidly changing technology landscape, and have been enabling debugging across Linux, MacOS, Open Enclave, and new machine architectures powering innovation across Microsoft.
As a Principal Engineer, you will grow as a technical leader for several of the tools and components that support debugging and diagnostics across Microsoft. You will help build an inclusive team to work together collaboratively, and mentor earlier-in-career team members. You will engage with our rich partner ecosystem in Azure, Windows, and devices to shape diagnostics that have impact across all of Microsoft.
BS/BA in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent in related technical experience.
10+ years of programming experience in C++ or C.
Experience working with kernel level components on Windows or Linux or other low level software is highly desired.
Understanding of low level concepts such as assembly, compiler design, exception handling, or stack unwinding will be highly beneficial to this role.
Solid understanding of large-scale system design and implementation.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
