We provide a reliable platform that spans from the edge to the cloud that customers use to build scalable, fully featured IoT solutions such as managing industrial equipment used in manufacturing, tracking valuable assets in healthcare, and monitoring office building usage.

We are looking for a Principal engineer to join our growing team in Redmond, WA. As a Principal engineer on the Azure IoT platform you will drive the architecture and design of large-scale distributed systems and services. You will be expected to tackle intrinsically hard scaling and availability problems and serve as a technical lead for critical initiatives from scoping to delivery to operations. You will work with customers and PMs to solve problems, drive critical requirements, lead design reviews, and provide feedback on architectural recommendations, while building highly scalable and reliable services.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive the architectural vision for IoT Platform core services
  • Provide strong technical leadership and raise the technical bar
  • Identify and articulate investment areas to drive efficiency, scale, and availability of the platform
  • Design key systems that are crucial to achieving scale to support anticipated growth
  • Inspire and drive engineering and operational excellence across the organization
  • Experiment and drive technical (and product) innovation
  • Lead regular architecture reviews of existing systems to ensure they can scale to handle projected growth
  • Collaborate with broader engineering community to drive best-in-class design and development practices
  • Work closely with customers to gather business and functional requirements and work with the broader team to translate requirements into technical specifications


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years design and development of large-scale enterprise level solutions and services is required
  • 8+ years of experience in software design and development is required
  • Extensive experience with at least one public cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Hands-on developer experienced building systems using C#, .NET Framework, Rust, or Java
  • Good balance between theoretical and pragmatic execution capabilities, and the ability to understand implementation complexity and estimate development costs
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with internal and external partners to create win-wins
  • Strong algorithm and analytical background and very good understanding on how to apply advanced knowledge to solve real world problems
  • Proficient in C#, .NET Framework or other equivalent programming language
  • Strong growth mindset with the ability to deliver innovative solutions solving challenging business and technical problems.
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building and operating cloud-based mission critical software
  • Azure services experience a big plus
  • Experience with big data services (Apache Spark, Flink, Beam) preferred
